Kids tees for you and for meeees

I've got this new client whose main business is kids teeshirts. Tween Girls tees.
I am really proud of myself because I just finished a giant batch of 12 for these guys & went in for the meeting today. Overall, I'm excited! They're pretty good for only having worked an hour-to-three on each! (which was the budget)

So the meeting went well and they're taking all but one of them. ...
and sadly, it happened to be my favorite. I was actually sitting there hoping they'd make a sample of it and give it to me, i liked it so much.
I really like the seagull one (that was the only one that didn't make the cut & my favorite!!)

I think these are small enough I won't get in troubles showing them...
Makes me wish I was small enough to fit in the shirts they're making!
.... Wait.... I AM!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

meelius - smeelius (Spore)

We got spore yesterday! I guess I'm lucky that it runs on my computer, right?
Well, it's been super fun so far. Creating a character and going around making friends with other animals and watching my guy evolve as my brain gets bigger.
Here is a sketch of my creature! Meelius-Smeelius.

Named after my cat Miles. Though it looks more like a pig/chihuahua...

Today Chris Crammer and I spent a long time working on this awesome installation piece.
Genius!

Body Art (and some gory stuff, too)

As Many of my friends know, I look at a Body Mod Blog pretty regularly.
They're currently going through legal battles about the authenticity of their site and need some help. I'm posting a link for a couple reasons, but the art related reason is that there are a LOT of really great (and a lot of really bad, or really confusing) pieces of tattoo art on there.

Take a look if you'd like: there is a great blog, a TON of archives & a crazy amount of stories about all sorts of stuff.

Be warned that a bunch of it is not work safe, and some of it is scandalous.
(not like I look at any of that kind of stuff...)

Click on the button below if you're intrigued!

The part that I look at is under the "LEARN" Section, titled Modblog.BMEzine.com

I did a little on it in class when i was doing a gouache demo.
I'll show you later!

Feel - Feelings - Felt

I am starting a group of paintings? Illustrator Drawings?
I have this idea to do these interesting pictures of kids...
and here is a really bad photobooth shot of a sketch i did.
I'll scan the real one later:

I think I might do each kid with a different theme.

Trying Painter

Okay - so Chris Crammer makes awesome stuff in painter and I am jealous of his skills.
I tried painter for the first time today and this is what happened.
Now, don't judge me- because I had a weird sketch to begin with, but I found out how to use a wacom tablet today as well as a couple brushes in the program.
I think I get how it works! Maybe one of these days I'll do something besides mess around. It could be awesome!!!

Here's some progress shots and the "final" (don't worry, i can take "sleez-mo" off of it. It's on another layer.

Lots of Art : Completed

I made lots of art today - and last week.
I am also too lazy to actually get good scans of these so I took some crappy photos with photobooth. These'll have to do until I get the energy to walk upstairs.
I guess I have an excuse: that it's late and I am sleepy.

All in all I feel pretty darn productive.
Here they are: Some for Dee's book
(inked & unfinished) and some other sketches from life.

Kitchen Textiles

Thought these were cute patterns -
I am doing a project right now for one of my corporate clients and was happy with myself when I made these.
I have a million more to go - but at least it's looking good so far.

I got this for you

I have been thinking about the class I have to teach in the Fall and I've been thinking about how long it's been since I painted something that wasn't for work. So I decided I better get on it and start doing drawings & paintings in the mediums I plan on teaching - otherwise I will just be a lame poser, and noone wants to "learn" from one of those.

I worked on this one a couple hours last night and a little bit today.
Just for fun - (jeeze, it's been a long time since I've said that...)

Girls, Girls, Girls... .. and Remy...again.

I forgot to tell you about the show that's up right now:
A bunch of friends and I have work up at the St Paul Tea Garden - it's a show of whatever we wanted ... and some streetfighter characters. :)
Here are three girls that I did for the show, and the final version of Remy from Street Fighter 3, 3rd Strike.

I feel like I have no concept of making this blog have a decent layout, so bear with my technical ignorance and enjoy these (semi-)beauties.

... i don't really like the two bottom girls much , but I do love the dark haired one.

Remy - Boyfriend #2... and Natalie.

so I drew a lot this week. I'm pretty proud of myself - because a lot of my drawings were for fun. unlike most weeks - i've done some things that I can say are in my real style - rather than my corporate style...

Here is a drawing of Remy - from Streetfighter 3
(he is my other boyfriend...)
I"m going to finish him up and delete the pencil lines soon - i'll post a real scan when it's done)

Here is a drawing of Natalie from the book:
(i have some things to fix about her, but just wanted to show it!)

Photobooth is way convenient, but takes really crappy photos...

So I've been getting ready for an art show that hangs in the Tea Garden in May - and I"m trying to get a lot of stuff done for Dee's book and some streetfighter guys (for fun) so that I actually pump out some real art for once... This has been SOOOO much fun... Real scans to come later, i think.

Owl, Owl, Mark

I made lots of things this weekend.
Chris and I went to a wedding and I ended up doing some work! Interesting!

Here is a couple cutie owls I embroidered for Chris and Emily!

And here is a drawing of another owl
EDIT: I took this one out! Sorry!

And here is a drawing of Mark - from the book!

Nice!!

Go, Me!

Images for Dee's Book - INKED.

Here are two images I'm doing for Dee's book:
They are Natalie and Mark -
I really like how they're turning out.
I Really like how Mark looks - even though in these he looks a little slimy.

scene: Natalie fixig her bra strap - Mark says "why not?"

scene: Natalie and Mark smoking pot in bed
(usually not my topic of choice - I am an old crotchety straight-edge gramma... )

I think this is going to be awesome. I finally got back into the swing of doing the book after being away from it for a while because of work stuff. But, I'm using this upcoming show at the Tea Garden in May as an excuse to do some great art. And I'm using all this art for Dee's book.

You'll have to forgive these photobooth pics - I was too lazy to scan them, but I'll probably post a gallery or something of all the images as I go. Who knows.
I am doing one of a dog next, i think. A dog named Princess, eating pepperoni.

working hard: hardly working

Here's a pattern I did : in mini-view, for a bedding project i'm working on:
I thought it was pretty awesome. (and pretty insane, throwback to my target days...)
I hope they really put this on some sheets : cause then i'll go and buy them and sleep on them.
yeah.

new project

so the other day dee asked me if i'd like to help her with a fun project.
she's been writing the second copy of her book these days and wanted to turn it into a half novel- half graphic novel.
it's pretty awesome: being able just to sketch like this,

i thought i'd post some of the character studies I've been doing.
i still have about half of the characters to figure out yet, but so far it's a ton of fun.
there are a couple weird things about some of these guys, but i'll fix that later.

Construction Worker

Okay, today is posting day...
I was working on lindsaynohl.com today.
Here is a sneak preview of how I think my situation will look:
just the concept for now...

nice and clean.

Soon ... now all I have to do is make art to put in it. ha.

Imperial Drag - "are you a boy or a girl?"

Remember that song?
Well here is my tribute.

It's either a manly woman, or a womanly man. Or maybe a little of both.
you be the judge.

I drew that today and inked it.
I am super productive these days.

Tomorrow starts a big work-fest for me. I'll be working on this massive commercial project for the next month - it'll be awesome... But I wanted to get in a little drawing while I could!

Portrait of Authority

Hey.
It's me. Long time, no post, eh?
I've been doing a lot of stuff over the past couple months, mostly getting my new paperbicycle stuff under control.
and Unfortunately, all of my clients make me sign non-disclosure agreements, so none of my work can go posted up on wonderful blogs like this.

but, I've been making stuff nonetheless.

Adam teased me the other day about the last post being in June. or July or something...

Well, without further ado - some sketches from my sketchbook.
Random sorta-portraits : ode to some of my past students. Good people.
I wonder if you know who they are inspired by...

...
working on a painting soon.

LindsayNohl_BonBonPcardweb.jpg

I'm making another promo postcard.
this time, It's about sweets. As you've probably noticed,
it shares almost the exact same pattern as the post about the recipe book... but it's less chalky.

more post-card-y.

i think I might print this one pretty quick, too, so I can take it to renegade.

Preliminary Sweeties

LindsayNohl_SweetiePattern.jpg

Here was the original pattern that inspired it all.
Notice how grey it is. (I think that might come from my personal love for grey)... not because it's at all appetizing or anything...

Fun Postcard

So I made some adjustments to this promo piece. I'm much happier with it now - I'm planning on sending a bunch of these out with the larger packet of materials. I will include that as I work on it -

What I like about it now, is that it serves as both a supplement to the larger promo piece I'm working on - as well as a self use item. It doesn't blare paperbicycle (which is what it's for) so when I send out a gift of them to clients, they will hopefully write on them and send them to people they like, thus getting my work out to more people.

the larger promo piece will be the piece that blares "paper bicycle" and showcases patterns and work.
I'm planning on sending a bunch of these out and selling packets of these both at local stores as well as the renegade craft show in Sept.

Paper Bicycle Promo Piece

Here's the beginning of a really neat promotional piece for Paper Bicycle.
I made it out of things I drew and Sara Waters' Buttons from a really cute pattern she made!! I'm excited - it may turn into a postcard as well as the front of a larger folder type thing.

woo!!!!

sara waters, chris and i are heading to new york on tuesday to go to the licensing show!
we had to get it up and running so when we handed a million cards out we'd have something to show!
soon it will have a case study section that will show some of the projects we work on.
but for now it's just a cute collection of my patterns!

soon it will have some of the other arists's patterns there, too!

hooray!

Dear Diary Number 1

Here's another pattern that I made today.
This one is way more sketchy - but that's the point.
hooray for getting things done!

Cross Posted - Patterngroup.blogspot

Hey - So I've started my Print and Pattern Company-

www.paperbicycle.com

I am working on putting the website up by AUG 1st, but may be able to get something up there before that.

Here is a pattern I made today with paintings that I did at the Spyhouse yesterday.
It's part of a larger series of things I plan on making in the next couple days.
